Jobboard Finder’s opinion

Summary: There are many different links on the TotalJobs generalist job board (including two different “About Us” sections), but ultimately, it’s easy to find the right information. Totaljobs belongs to the Totaljobs Group Ltd. (a subsidiary of StepStone), which also includes CareerStructure.com, Caterer.com, Catererglobal.com, CWJobs.co.uk, RetailChoice.com. The website has been around since the turn of the century, so it’s had time to become a trusted job board. In fact, it’s the second most popular job board in the UK (behind indeed.co.uk) and the 166th most visited website in the country. To earn that ranking, it gets roughly 14.13 million views a month (which has been quite steady for the last few years). If social media is anything to go by, Totaljobs is doing pretty well: 45 000 Twitter followers, 85 935 on Facebook, 2 480 Youtube followers (and hundreds of videos, which they continue to add every month) and 11 234 on LinkedIn. A list of partner website are available in the "About Us" section.

Design: Their current slogan is “get everything you need for a job”, which is next to a photo of a girl on the homepage. Over the image, there is the search engine (keywords, location and distance). There are recommended jobs, and job by sector, by location, by company, popular searches, entry level jobs and part time jobs. They also list their various services with icons, making it easy for foreigners to use the site. The app is also a feature of the homepage. They have removed a lot of their annoying sponsored advertising, which is great. Once in the job listing, the filters are the location, the distance, the salary, the publication date, the recruiter (agency or a direct employer), the type of contract, the related jobs and popular employers. Some job offers are “featured”, others are “premium”, the new ones say “new”. The job offers, once opened, can be extremely customized or relatively standard (depending on the package deal). You can also browse the new "courses" section and there are links to quizzes.

The job board objective: TotalJobs is the total package: advice, tests, videos, ratings, customization, salary information, etc. Oh, and job offers.

Recruiter observations: On the recruiter page, the page is currently blue. “Advertise now” leads to the recruiter page. Pricing information is available on the website and according to TotalJobs, there are 16 million searchable CVs. The partnership with the ATS SmartRecruiters is a plus, as are other services like targeted e-mails and or better visibility. It’s easy to create an account and the credit purchasing is simple too! There is a discount for new customers (listed on the site). There is a search engine to check how many CVs correspond to your position.

Jobseeker observations: To create an account, you need to include your current or last position and your salary. You also need to confirm whether you can work in the EU and the UK. To apply to job offers, you can use the “one-click apply” or edit your profile before sending an application. The website tells you the name of the person your application has been sent to.

The job offers: There are more than 184K job offers, with an overwhelming number for permanent positions. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of job offers in all of the different sectors.

Reactivity: --

Special features: Some old campaigns including: #millionpoundjamie (a million pound investment into improving Jamie Mudle’s CV, interview skills and there are videos to prove it) and #theelevatorpitch; the blog (many interesting articles); the Youtube videos (including “what it’s like to work in…” videos); company ratings; the salary checker (information on low, average and high salaries in a variety of industries and how the salary varies from location to another; suggested jobs – for some roles, they do not have enough information); job alerts; the recruiter survey; the icons; “one-click apply”; courses; quizzes; the CV search engine.; salary planner.

Verdict: TotalJobs has something for everyone. If you don’t need a job or a new employee, you can still benefit from their interesting articles and salary information, or watch some of the humorous videos. It's great to see they've added courses to keep up with the times!
