Jobboard Finder’s opinion

Summary: Created in 2004, TopLanguageJobs is a niche job board focusing on language skills. Even though it is based in London, it is present all over Europe and in 2012, it was bought by the American giant CareerBuilder. Most successful in Ireland and the United Kingdom, TopLanguageJobs offers jobs in a large range of languages and a large range of fields. The social media is shared by the different countries, and the followers include 22 208 on Facebook, 116 on Youtube, 2 562 on Twitter (no updates since September) and 13 515 Linkedin. The page views per month for the UK version of the site are around 183 440 views, with most of those coming from the UK, followed by Poland, the Czech Republic, Portugal and Turkey. Ireland and Bulgaria are also among the main countries that use the website.

Design: The homepage features the search engine (keywords, languages and location) at the top of the page. The hiring companies flash on and off the screen (some are not hiring) and the rest of the page offers different lists for the job offers: hot jobs, latest jobs, popular searches, jobs by language, jobs by sector, jobs by company and the jobs by country. On the homepage, only the salary, location and job title are visible for the job offers, but in the real job listing, all useful information (publication date, company, type of contract, location, etc.) is shown. You can look up all the vacancies within one company, but there aren’t any “company pages”. To help find the right position, there are many filters (language, industry, location, keywords, radius, job type, search type, salary, job type, date posted, recruiter, recruiter type, job category) on the left-hand side.

The job board objective: TopLanguageJobs hopes  to make it easier for recruiters to find bilingual workers and for bilingual jobseekers to utilize their language skills.

Recruiter observations: You cannot create an account without calling or e-mailing the sales team (information is on the homepage).

Jobseeker observations: It’s easy to create an account (especially since you don’t have to fill out thousands of additional fields) and to apply to jobs. There are often preliminary questions.

The job offers: There are 2 129 job offers, which is a drop of about 3 000 job offers since July. Only 500 or so of the job offers are over a month old. Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic and Greece have the most offers. English is the language most in-demand. Customer service and call centers have the most vacancies.

Reactivity: --

Special features: The Youtube videos; job alerts.

Verdict: TopLanguageJobs focuses on the job search. The filters are particularly useful for refining the job search but unfortunately, the website has been more successful in some countries than in others.
