Jobboard Finder’s opinion

Summary: DerStandard is an online Austrian newspaper. Founded in 1988 by Oscar Bronner as a financial newspaper, but has definitely widened its topic rang since then. The newspaper appeared online in 1995 and is still headed up by Oscar Bronner today. Interestingly enough, the newspaper has  taken a stance on importance issues by created DieStandard (for women) and DaStandard (for migrants – which no longer exists). Now it is also considering DerStandard.de as it explains to Germany. The career section is just a small part of the website but it’s definitely on a popular site. There are 315 478 followers on Facebook, 304 000 on Twitter and another 907 on LinkedIn. As for the visibility, DerStandard receives an impressive 15.65 million visits a month.

Design: The font is small and the content doesn’t fill up the screen. To access the jobs on Der Standard, you can click on either Jobs or Karriere. In Jobs, you access the job listing directly. Through Karriere, you see the job board homepage, which includes a search engine (keywords and location) and a page full of articles on careers and employment. In the listing, there are no logos, but you can see the publication date, the company name, the location and some also indicate if the job is new or a recommended job. The offers can be sorted by newness or relevance. The filters (sector, type of hours, position in the company, experience, and business) remain at the top of the page. There is a company listing with visible logos and the number of current vacancies. Company profiles however are just a list of job offers.

The job board objective: DerStandard put an emphasis on transparency, so you can expect to see honest job offers and truthful information about the publication dates.

Recruiter observations: To advertise on the website, you must contact the team. Pricing information is on the website, but you might have trouble finding it.

Jobseeker observations: It’s easy to sign up for an account. You can create a CV online or upload one and the site will fill out some of the information automatically on your profile.

The job offers: There are more than 4 500 job offers on the site. Most of them are in IT/telecommunications, accounting, production, sales and management.

Reactivity: It took the team a few days to get back to us but they appologised for the lateness, which was appreciated. They were helpful.

Special features: The articles; the CV parser; the photos and name of the entire team; articles on salary; the net-gross pay calculator; the company news.

Verdict: Even if DerStandard is not the most attractive website, it is a popular one and it does offer a varied mix of job offers (and even CVs for recruiters). If you’re in Austria, check it out.
