Jobboard Finder’s opinion

Summary: In the world of job boards, Monster is, well, a monster of a job board. As some of you might know, Monster was sold to Randstad, a huge international staffing company, in 2016, which did not help the job site regain its leading position as hoped unfortunately. Instead, Monster continues to struggle to maintain its prestigious reputation. That said, the Canadian version is more than adequate, offers its users more than just job board tools and has been doing so since 1997. It gets as many as 2.03 million views a month (despite a slight drop recently) and it has an impressive range of Youtube videos, as well as 732 188 Facebook followers, 631 on Youtube, 39 500 on Twitter and 716 Instagram. The website is available in French and English (and for any other languages, you can compare it with the different portals).

Design: The familiar purple monster is the backdrop on the homepage. The search engine is in two parts (keywords and location) but unlike some Monsters, a keyword is not required. The rest of the homepage is full of career advice (a lot of which is quite original and witty). There is also a survey and some categories to pick from to narrow down the search. Other Monster sites are even recommended for international searches. In the job listing, the important information (location, position, publication date and company) is visible and usually one job offer appears next to a list of all the others corresponding searches. The filters include the radius, the city, the date posted, the company and the job status.

The job board objective: Monster aims to dominate the job market both locally and internationally.

Recruiter observations: Even though it is possible to order an advert package through the website, the website kept malfunctioning when we tried to create an account.

Jobseeker observations: You can create an account with Facebook or an e-mail address. If you have an account on another Monster website worldwide site, you won’t need to create another one.

The job offers: There are 1 448 job offers on Monster. Some of the top popular job titles are federal government jobs, part-time jobs, IT jobs, retail jobs and construction jobs.

Reactivity: --

Special features: The survey; the Youtube videos; the blog; the app; the TRUSTe Feedback button; the CV parser; the press room; the security centre.

Verdict: Monster Canada continues to attract many jobseekers and provide clear job offers. For recruiters and jobseekers alike, it remains a trusted brand.
