Jobboard Finder’s opinion

Summary: Created in 2005, Mashable is a huge media and entertainment company for “superfans”, focused on culture and tech. As an online magazine of sorts, the focus isn’t actually the job board, but there are many offers. The site was created by the Scotsman Peter Cashmore at 19. In 2017, he sold the site to Ziff David and then left the company officially a year later. The job site section is powered by CareerCast, which is why it has the same logo. An impressive 7 334 609 followers on Facebook, 9.81 million on Twitter, 881 840 on LinkedIn and 789 026 on YouTube, but the accounts are not only for the job part of the site. According to EasyCounter, the job site attracts 1 750 visits a day (so 52 500 a month) with 50% of those visits coming from the US.

Design: To access the job board, you must go to “more” at the top of the page and click on “job board”. Once you’ve brought up the job site, the search engine (keywords and locations) stretches out across the screen. The featured companies underneath are NOT hiring. The rest of the homepage displays featured and recent job offers (with no visuals – logos, images, etc.). In the actual job listing, you can see the publication dates, the company name, the job title and the location (no logos) and featured jobs remain on the right-hand side at all times. Offers are sorted by relevance, newest, featured or popularity. In the advance search, you have filters (keywords, locations, category, publication date), but they don’t work very well (every time I clicked on one, it would display 0 offers). Furthermore, there are inconsistencies: if you click on “show all” in refine results for instance, you must suggest a keyword but you don’t see all the others). You cannot click on the words in the footer.

The job board objective: The Mashable job board hopes to offer relevant job offers to its readers.

Recruiter observations: Recruiters can use their LinkedIn account to sign into the site (but not to create the account). The country of origin and a phone number are required fields. Prices are available online.

Jobseeker observations: Some offers redirect you to Career Cast, others to a career page. Those with an “easy application” say so in the job listing. You don’t need an account if you apply to offers, which redirect you. You can import your CV from LinkedIn.

The job offers: There are currently 118 303 job offers on the site.

Reactivity: When contacting the team, you are actually contacting the Career Cast team. Luckily, they are fast and helpful.

Special features: The YouTube videos; hundreds of articles; job alerts; CV importing from LinkedIn.

Verdict: Even if Mashable is an interesting website, it would seem the job board isn’t. There are so many little (and big) flaws that you can’t find vacancies, which actually correspond to your search. The transparency could be improved too.
