Leboncoin jobs Presentation

Site's statement

Leboncoin.fr is a free generalist classified website launched in 2006 by Blocket.se French little sister. It's the #1 online player on the french web market. Leboncoin summarized in 3 steps:

  •  39,5% reach in French internet population
  •  More than 18 million ads online
  •  one billion page views per month

Jobboard Finder’s opinion

Summary: In 2006, Antoine Jouteau was approached by Schibsted and asked to create a webpage like Bocket.se, but for the French. The idea was to offer a wide range of classifieds: things to sell, things to buy, places to rent and jobs up for grabs. As the 7th most active website in France, Leboncoin.fr is definitely a part of the French culture. It might surprise people to know that, in France, Leboncoin is more likely to be consulted for job offers (20%) than Linkedin (13%) – despite their more professional orientation.

The job board objective: It’s all about making it easy for people to find what they want in one place, and more specifically, in a local place.

Recruiter observations: As many as 2.8 million people check the job section every month and 900 000 jobs were posted in 2017. You need to create an account and include information about the company organisation number (SIRET) and there is an automatic check. This could be a problem for foreign companies. Also, you need to respect the guidelines when describing the job. It’s highly recommended to include a photo (the first 3 are free): adverts with photos are more than 7 times more visited than ones without (according to Leboncoin). Even though the job offers can be listed from the newest to the oldest, the oldest to the newest, the cheapest to the most expensive or the most expensive to the cheapest (which means they kept the format from the classified section), it is automatically set to show the newest posts which means that people often leave it on that filter. It’s good to know that most people in France keep a close eye on the activity when looking for something specific (so, a job or an apartment). Other than the general layout of the adverts, recruiters are free to structure their job offers however they please. However, you do need to be careful: about 800 000 adverts are posted on Leboncoin every day (and can easily get forgotten), but 8 to 10% of them get rejected.

Jobseeker observations: Leboncoin is one of those websites you could spend the day on. Either you know what you want so you type in the right information to find it; or, like most of us, you scroll through pages and pages of adverts, and it can become quite addictive.

The job offers: This is the kind of website where people post odd-jobs, service jobs, babysitting jobs, chauffeur jobs, plumber jobs, etc. Oddly enough though, according to the search engine, there are 5 times more full time jobs than part time jobs and 3 times more permanent positions than short-term positions. Of course, that isn’t necessarily accurate. There are about 60 461 jobs offers currently displayed on Leboncoin. As of this year, a new section has been created: “Leboncoin Emploi Cadres”, exclusively for executive job offers. For now, you can only apply with a Linkedin account.

Special features: The love-heart “favourites” button to find past adverts; the list of companies advertising on Leboncoin (see above); the direct link to similar websites in other countries; GDPR laws taken seriously.

Verdict: We’ll have to wait and see if the new “Leboncoin Emploi Cadres” section actually takes off before recommending this particular job board for big companies. For now, it’s safe to say Leboncoin is a trusted website, where French people know they can find a quick solution to making a bit of extra money in less demanding jobs (with low academic requirements). And if they need a job fast, you can be sure they’ll check Leboncoin.
